Week 5 DZC Painting Progress for the Scourge

There comes a time in any wargamer's life when, even though your progress is great and you're loving what you're doing, when suddenly you feel...well...

To quote Star Wars "there's too many of them!!!". That overwhelming feeling that despite great progress the vast sea of minis you have collected over your lifetime will just never end. This latest task of mine for DZC is an effort to break myself from that feeling which I got (and get from time to time) earlier this summer. I went into a 5 month hiatus from painting and focused mostly on my girlfriend (hey, can you blame me?) and a bit on playing games while leaving the hobby side out of it. It was around August that I saw some of the latest new releases from Hawk Wargames and, for the first time since the game first came out, I really went back over and looked at the body of work they've done. Simply put - their miniatures line is amazing and I've been completely swept up in their universe and elegance of rules and...darn cool resin ;).

Switching to these figures has been a ton of fun and really brought back my enthusiasm for hobby painting. There's something refreshing about doing 10mm "true scale" figures that is a great break from the large scale StarShips (Firestorm Armada from the brilliant Spartan Games) I've been doing which were a wonderful break from the standard 28mm figures before that (mostly Fantasy and 40k).

So without further yapping...here is what I've done so far:

(note some of this is still a work in progress with the most painted and finished on the left moving to the right for works in progress)

I think I love the heavy tanks the most. They feel to me to have a great sense of detail and a direct inspiration from HR Giger.

The Dropships for the Scourge seem to take inspiration from the classic sci-fi 1950's version of HG Wells' War of the Worlds. They're not Tri-Pods (though the Octopod leader next to them...) but the eyes have that menacing glow of the aliens.

The anti-air stands ready to terrorize the skies.

More updates and progress to come. Thanks for viewing and comments, suggestions on technique and schemes -all of it is welcome.
