The sound of the rain beats heavily on my window pane. The wind howls and the rumbling of my furnace kicks in.
The painting gods are saying "stay in Brian...your minis need you". Damn painting gods and their thrice cursed foretelling of winter...
(Translation: It was a cold and damp weekend and that means it was a perfect time to get some painting done.)
First, I want to share one of the inspirations for my painting style for the PHR. Here is a link to a great tutorial by a Youtuber named Michael Evans which I've used as a basis for much of the work I've done. While I do some steps differently than he does (most notably I use a Sepia wash prior to sealing my figures and moving onto oil washes for panel lining) I can say that his tutorial is the best I've seen for the PHR. It explains many techniques, that may be unfamiliar to beginners, in a simple and friendly way. I don't believe his channel is active anymore but I would definitely watch as many of his videos as you can for some nice inspiration and some generally useful techniques on airbrush pre-shading and layering. He covers several PHR units, some Firestorm Armada (oldschool) and a bit of GW.
Now onto some pics of my progress. A ton of work done this weekend on both factions.
Some terrible lighting today as it was so dark out so the colours are washed out. I hope to get some better pictures up later this week to really show things off but in the meantime...
(Update - new pics)
2 Walkers done and another dropship. The PHR now have 4 Medium dropships, 2 Light Dropships, 3 Walkers, and one infantry base done.
The Scourge are still slithering forth, their armies massing to repel the reclaimers of their host worlds. This week sees the Desolator, a Reaver Gunship, another medium Dropship, and the finishing touches on the heavy tanks and transports.
My goal is to have two 1000 point armies to demo off with done by the 15th. We'll see if life gets in the way but so far some pretty good progress. Then I may take a bit of a break from Dropzone and do some finishing touches on my Directorate and..
I'll have a new project to keep me painting...
